Poise FAQs
What is a Hot Flash?
Simply stated, a hot flash is an estrogen withdrawal effect. Your body is used to high concentrations of estrogen; when you go through menopause your estrogen levels drop. Your body responds to this decline in estrogen with a vasomotor effect, which is experienced as a sudden feeling of warmth or heat that spreads throughout your body--commonly referred to as a "hot flash" or a "hot flush."
Do All Women Get Menopause?
Menopause is an "equal opportunity event." All women who live through and beyond their fifth decade will experience this life changing transition to some degree. How intense the symptoms of menopause are is as unique as our individual fingerprint. Some women will experience hot flashes every ten minutes; others will have one hot flash and wonder what the rest of women are talking about.
